Campers will journey around the globe as they meet and interact with exotic birds from almost every continent and learn about their lifestyles and behaviors, both in the wild and in captivity. What makes parrots such unique creatures? What is it like to keep one as a pet? We will explore this and more, all while enjoying the company of Free Flight’s own colorful flock!

What are the dates Parrot Camp will be hosted this year?

Parrot Camp will be held from July 15-19th (Monday-Friday).

  • Ages 7-10: 9am-12pm

  • Ages 11-14: 1pm-4pm

What age group may participate in this camp?

Children ages 7-14.

What is the cost of Parrot Camp?

$200 for the week.

What will my child learn about?

  • Parrot 101 (Species overview, behavior, lifestyles, characteristics, diet & nutrition, health & safety, behavioral issues, training, etc.)

  • Basic parrot handling (smaller birds at Free Flight)

  • Keeping a companion parrot (training, enrichment, basic requirements, etc.)

How many participants will there be?

Usually we have between 10-15 campers in each group.

What should I plan to send with my camper each day?

  • Refillable bottle for water

  • Snacks/lunch 

  • Sunscreen

  • Sweater/light jacket (temperature can vary greatly in our yard! Some also find it more comfortable to have a layer of cloth between their arms and the birds’ claws)

Will my child get bit by a bird while I am here?

Hopefully not! While parrot bites are always possible, staff will show them the warning signs to look out for in order to prevent bites. If they are bitten, not to worry! Bites are “clean” and the majority of the time, not at all serious. 

The course is already full! What can I do?

If the course has already filled up, or you are unable to attend the dates in question, please email Isabelle at freeflightbirds@live.com to notify us that you would like to be notified should an additional camp week become available. 

What do I do if I need to cancel?

Free Flight may offer a refund for the program. In order to do so, arrangements must be made at least 2 WEEKS prior to the start date of the camp.
