Zoe's Progress

Zoe, African Grey

Zoe, African Grey

During the summer of 2014, a beautiful, but very anxious, African Grey named Zoe came to our sanctuary. When we first met her, she was not able to tolerate much in the way of social interaction or outside noises and distractions. Throughout the past year, several volunteers and junior docents have put in countless hours of love and affection, trying to bring her out of her shell. She is also proudly sponsored by one of her admirers, Pam Barkowski.

Zoe grows more social each day. She now enjoys getting head scratches, as well as walking around and playing on the ground. We enjoy her cleverness daily, whether she is tricking us into thinking the phone is ringing, or signaling that the mail delivery is here by imitating the reverse ‘beeps’ of a large truck. While she still has a long way to go before she readily steps up on a hand, her progress brings tears to our eyes. Be sure to visit with Zoe during your next trip to Free Flight.
